I thought I’d share this article I had written for eZine. Following the post is a link to eZine, where you can read my other tomes.
Enjoy.
Wake up, eat breakfast, turn on the computer, check out sales statistics and the latest offers on the affiliate network. For those who are concerned, there will always be new things to update and statistics to keep track of.
The website design always needs revision. The marketer knows that a well-designed, search engine optimized website can increase sales and visitor sign ups. Thus helping the affiliate’s conversion rates.
After checking the website, it is time to submit the affiliate program to a list of affiliate program directories. These directories are a means to attracting people to join your affiliate program. It’s a great way to promote affiliate programs.
Now, it’s time to track the sales you are getting from your affiliates. Analytic tools placed on the website helps affiliate marketers tracks sales, new clients and the products they are looking at. They can also keep track of customer contact information, depending on what analytics program the marketer has chosen. Gathering contact information is crucial..
There are also a lot of resources to sort through-ads, banners, samples to give out to create more sales.
Next, the affiliate marketer will answer visitors’ emails. This must be done because nothing can turn a customer off more than an unanswered email.
No one, especially a customer, wants to feel like they are being ignored. A quick, professional yet friendly reply can bring in repeat customers.
Another part of the process is visiting forums and other marketers’ websites. At a forum, the marketer can interacts with other affiliates. This is where marketers can discuss how to best promote their products. Visiting other marketers websites gives the marketer insights into website design and trending content.
The learning process is a continuous one. A good way to show support is to share tips and advice with other marketers. This type of advice and tip sharing may entice others to want to join the ongoing discussions.
After visiting the forums and checking out other websites, it’s time for the affiliate marketer to see if there are any more new things happening in the market. This new information can be tweeted or written about in the marketer’s blog.
If the affiliate is running a promotion, it’s time to thank those who have helped the marketer with their sales and promotions. It is imperative to mention the people, their sites and the work they have done to help make your promotion successful.
This of course will be posted on the marketer’s website/blog along with the other information that has already been posted on the website.
The marketer will need to post product recommendations for people looking for a credible sources for the products being promoted. Another task would be to post some comments on how to be a successful affiliate marketer on a site where there are lots of newbie marketers.
There are two objectives here: 1) the marketer gets to promote the product and 2) they get to market the program they are in as well.
Time goes by quickly. So it’s best to keep track of it. Missing meals can be avoided by setting a timer. In this day and age, you can even set your cell phone.
Admittedly, this cannot be all done in a day. But, this gives you an idea of how an affiliate marketer, a dedicated one anyway, operates.
Working from home can be a life changing experience. Instead of working in a cubicle, back facing the window, you work in an environment of your own making. You can retire your alarm clock and wake up to new, exciting challenges every day. As with anything, there will be stops and starts, failures and successes. Finding a great coach or mentor makes the difference. My coach is Alex Jeffreys.
I keep an online journal of my successes (and failures too) on my blog: Julie Watson.
Stop by and meet my colleagues from around the world-literally. Find out what Internet Marketers talk about and what the life of an affiliate marketer is really like.

Great article! I have one question for you. Where is the time for surfing the web or playing online games? LOL! I also didn’t see time for cashing those large check – LOL!
Do you follow the same routine everyday or do you mix it up from day to day or week to week?

You’re a funny dude.
I left out the surfing and the online games because the post was originally an article for eZine. If people wanted to know what online marketers really do and what we really talk about. Well I invited them to my blog to check it out.
And no, god no, it is not the same routine everyday. I would have fits if I did this everyday. As a matter of fact, I just got back from the pool. : )

Hey Mike,
Thanks for stopping by. Affiliate mktg sussed? Hardly, but I’m doing my best. Disciplined? Thanks for the compliment, I owe that to three people- John & Betty (Do your homework! You can go outside AFTER we’ve checked it) Watson and Master Ruriko (You have 5 minutes) Masutani.
Following Alex’s 1 hour block plan makes it easier too. The key is to be flexible.
To your success,
Jules

Hey Julie,
It looks like I’ve met yet another MWA Student. I was in his first coaching class back in November of 08′. Welcome aboard.
This sounds a lot like my day although there’s a lot more involved than just what you say here. You couldn’t possibly list everything here that one has to do through the course of one day, never mind a whole week.
There’s one thing I have to make clear. There’s NO WAY I’m missing any meals.
You have made a wise choice in using the Flexibility Theme for your blog. This is what I use also and I love it.
Later,
Jeff Sargent

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
Yes, guilty as charged. I am an Alex Jeffreys MWA student. Thanks for your warm welcome. I checked out your post on Giveaways. Great post.
Yeah, there’s a lot to do. Following the “one hour, no interruption” tactic is really, really helpful.
And as far a missing meals is concerned, I made a note: NO WAY is Jeff Sargent missing any meals.
There, my list is complete. : )
Again, thanks for stopping by Jeff.

Hey Wayne,
Speaking of dreams:
“if your heart is in your dream/no request is too extreme/when you wish upon a star as dreamers do…”
When my focus wanes, I stop, think about why I’m doing instead of what I’m doing and then I’m back on track.
Working from home is the best.
To your success,
Jules

Hi Julie
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I was on MWA 2.0 so Ive been doing this for over a year now. Great article, but my experience tells me that IM is a crowded market and the most effective way people get affiliates on board is through personal relationships with other Marketers – there are new products coming on all the time.
Apart from JV Notify Pro, Clickbank and Paydotcom I think spending all day submitting to directories will take an awful lot of time and energy.
Another thing I also learned is that if you try to spread your efforts in too many directions you get swamped. The easiest way for I have found to move forward is to build a list by mainly swapping, monetise that process with OTOs and banners on download pages then build ones own product which I havent finished yet.
By being active and swapping etc in the IM community people get to know you thus making it easier to get them to promote for you in future.
The key is to keep everything you do as simple as possible but make sure you have good relationships established with other marketers – if they like you most will promote your stuff in future.
Take Care
Pete

Hi Peter,
Thank you for stopping by my blog.
Yeah, that schedule is a little hectic but thanks to your comment, I’m going to change my tack.
Again, thanks for sharing your experience.

Hey Amber,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Check out Peter’s comment. I think I like his schedule much better than my own. Don’t take the title literally-doing this takes days. Perhaps I should change the title-A Week in the Life,….nah, doesn’t have the same ring.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and stay tuned. My daily schedule is about to change.
