Dude, Where’s Your Opt-in Form?

If you don’t know already, I’m in Alex Jeffreys’ Marketing with Alex 3.0 Coaching Program. It’s his third and final coaching class before he heads out to San Diego to work on his business and spend time with family. And I really am blessed to be part of it.

Anyway, I’ve been working on product creation, (my excuse for not posting in a while) and setting up an e-mail marketing campaign. At first, I sat in front of my computer and stared at it for a while and then I would get up to do something else before I went mad. This went on for a couple of days.

What to do? What to do?

Towards the end of the week, as  I sat down to face my computer again, “it” hit me. “It” being a conversation I remember having with another student about article marketing and PLR. She went on to bemoan the fact that she would get tons of PLR but she had to sift through “tons of articles” to find any PLR relating to internet marketing.

Hmm. You have the PLR, but it takes too much time to look through it?  I get tons of it too . So what if I sift through the detritus, present the PLR articles in packets of ten (10), which is about 2 weeks worth of work for PotPie Girl’s “One Week Marketing”, and add 50 – 100 keyword phrases?

Do you know what this means? It means I have my free product! It also means I can end this one-sided staring contest with my PC .

So where’s my opt-in form?

It worked fine 2 days ago. I had my accountability partner, Kin Lau sign up and test it out on Friday/Saturday (he lives in NZ, I live in NY) and it worked – you’re taken to the confirmation page, you get a “thank you” with bonuses and more PLR to come,… blah, blah.

So, it’s now Monday, I’m in Alex’s weekly coaching webinar, where I announce that I completed my first free product and finally have my opt-in in place,  ready to drive traffic to my site.  Cheers! Kudos! Yay! Right.

The tech in me says, go back to your site and test it again. Always one to listen to my inner tech, I went back to my site and tested the form.

[Cue annoying game show buzzer]

I was immediately taken to an error page.

After hanging my head and releasing one great big sigh, I remembered:

Tomorrow, AWeber will be holding a live webinar on Web Forms.

Guess who will be in attendance?

NEVER GIVE UP!

    Hey Jules

…..and the moral of this post I guess is, “Keep Checking”,
Back in 2004 I took a two week holiday of a life time, with my family to Canada and left my sports ecommerce site on auto, when I returned home I found that almost from the moment I stepped onto the plane the system stopped working and I’d not had any orders to return to!!
I now have a techy guy keep an eye on it whenever I’m away (like in 2 weeks time)- it certainly was a hard lesson learned.

So, yes it’s a wise thing to check, check and re-check.

Great Post, keep up the good work.

    Hey!

Good to see you again. By the time of this reply, I have my opt-in set up and some subscribers to boot!
The hard work is paying off. So now I have to figure out how to tend to my list. One problem solved, another challenge ahead. God, this reminds me of IT.

  2. Well done for coming up with something Jules. It is hard to get ideas sometimes. Some of these PLR packages contain really old stuff. A couple I rewrote recently that were still rejected by EzineArticles for being too similar to others. Hope you can sort some new copy.

    Hey Sandy!

It’s been a while but I believe that is entirely my fault.
I love your blog and I’m glad you have the opportunity to check out all the “gurus” and get great information from them.
I agree with you on the really old PLR. I try to update the material when I can.
When I write an article for EZineArticles, I use PLR like I would Cliff Notes – for research. Don’t get me wrong, my articles were rejected too until I learned to use PLR only as a guide. Changing paragraphs around and substituting words and sentences here and there just doesn’t cut it with them.
I’ve also used PLR and did the opposite of what I just told you and got approved. Go figure. I think it depends on who is reviewing your article. But to be on the safe side,….try not to use PLR with them at all.

    Hi Jules

You know what? You’re on your way! I missed the Aweber Webinar, should probably have been on it, cos I can never seem to be able to amend their opt-in boxes to suit what I want. How did it go, by the way?

So with regard to your free product – do I get it from the optin box on the right sidebar of your blog? I’m not sure if the optin is for regular updates OR for your own free product (could just be me being stupid!)?

Anyway, I look forward to checking out what you’ve done and I’ll let you have some feedback, eh?

    cheers

    Hi Jaycee,
Good to see you. AWeber recorded that session so it should be in their webinar section. It was very informative. I got a chance to see the smart video confirmation and lightbox pop over in action. I believe I used it for this opt-in.

You can get the free IM plr by filling out the box on the right or you can sign up using the pop over. I think the ad reads, Free Internet Marketing PLR- create your own…… This box is part of Troy McDonald’s co-op list building group called ListCrew.com. The opt-in gives you the free product and then every other day or so, you get more PLR.

Right now, the e-mail series has 7 follow ups each with a different set of PLR. In the meantime, I’m scouring my hard drive and the Internet for more free products to spruce up and offer subscribers.

I would love some feed back. I would have sent the product for review to the forum but the idea came to me so quickly and I was too excited,…typical newbie, right?

Anyway, would love hearing from you.

First, congratulations on figuring out your free product to giveaway to your subscribers. It is really an awesome idea.

Second, this story tells me that I should always listen to that inner voice, especially when it tells me something is not quite right.

Third, congrats on working through it aka. failing forward and moving on.

“Failing forward”. I like that phrase. I’m going to use it – a lot.

Take care and I’ll see you soon.

    Hi Jules

Thanks for the freebie. I opted in and received the product. I’ve scan read a couple of the documents and they are informative. I’ll let you know if I pick up any useful gems from them, what they are and how I’ve put them to work.

Good effort, well done and keep it simple!

    Cheers

    Hi Jaycee,

Thank you for opting in. I received your report on the IM conference and really really liked it. Now that you mention it,
I have a resource coming down the pike in my series – an eBook showing you how to make money using PLR.
As soon as I get all the uploading business out of the way, I’m going to send a message out to my list.

Great job with the report and thank you for your feedback.

Now, I have to ask myself, why am I working on a Saturday?

    Peace.
