That’s my new motto. Don’t quite remember what the old one was but that’s not the point.
It’s the advice I’ve been giving myself when I come to face a new challenge. The most recent was creating a free product, creating an opt-in box and setting up the email sequence – I had never done it before. Thinking about it was scary.
What if I don’t get it right?
What if I could never do it?
What if it takes me a whole year?
And on and on.
So to get myself started mentally, I had a rebuttal for each of my fears (that’s what they were, really)
If it breaks you fix it,
If you get it wrong, you do it over again,
You’ll never do it if you don’t do it and
If you think it’s going to take you a year, you’d better get started.
That last bit, I think I was channeling my mother.
Keeping It Simple
My first concept was, I’ll build a mini-site with every possible offer available blogged or put on flash banners and what-not.
The next was, I’ll create a video- a POV video of me walking through crowded NYC streets. What does that have to do with marketing?
I’m thinking graphics and video, rotating banners, P. Diddy on jet skis,…; I was creating one of those marketing campaigns where no one knows what the product is.
Internet marketing is simple and it takes a bit of work. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be.
Get It Done
As I simplified things, it became easier to perform certain tasks. Instead of trying to figure out how to work an auto-responder, I went to the source. I went to a couple of AWeber seminars and called them a few times when I was stuck on stupid. They were great.
When it came to writing a follow up message, I wrote like I was writing a quick note to a friend about a deal I got and wanted to share. Wrote it all in NotePad, saved it and got it done.
My next challenge is to prepare at least 3 months worth of content with bonus offers of course to my list. I want to have this done by next week so that I can work on another income stream. Don’t know what it is yet but I trust the Universe.
TweetIf you don’t know already, I’m in Alex Jeffreys’ Marketing with Alex 3.0 Coaching Program. It’s his third and final coaching class before he heads out to San Diego to work on his business and spend time with family. And I really am blessed to be part of it.
Anyway, I’ve been working on product creation, (my excuse for not posting in a while) and setting up an e-mail marketing campaign. At first, I sat in front of my computer and stared at it for a while and then I would get up to do something else before I went mad. This went on for a couple of days.
What to do? What to do?
Towards the end of the week, as I sat down to face my computer again, “it” hit me. “It” being a conversation I remember having with another student about article marketing and PLR. She went on to bemoan the fact that she would get tons of PLR but she had to sift through “tons of articles” to find any PLR relating to internet marketing.
Hmm. You have the PLR, but it takes too much time to look through it? I get tons of it too . So what if I sift through the detritus, present the PLR articles in packets of ten (10), which is about 2 weeks worth of work for PotPie Girl’s “One Week Marketing”, and add 50 – 100 keyword phrases?
Do you know what this means? It means I have my free product! It also means I can end this one-sided staring contest with my PC .
So where’s my opt-in form?
It worked fine 2 days ago. I had my accountability partner, Kin Lau sign up and test it out on Friday/Saturday (he lives in NZ, I live in NY) and it worked – you’re taken to the confirmation page, you get a “thank you” with bonuses and more PLR to come,… blah, blah.
So, it’s now Monday, I’m in Alex’s weekly coaching webinar, where I announce that I completed my first free product and finally have my opt-in in place, ready to drive traffic to my site. Cheers! Kudos! Yay! Right.
The tech in me says, go back to your site and test it again. Always one to listen to my inner tech, I went back to my site and tested the form.
[Cue annoying game show buzzer]
I was immediately taken to an error page.
After hanging my head and releasing one great big sigh, I remembered:
Tomorrow, AWeber will be holding a live webinar on Web Forms.
Guess who will be in attendance?
NEVER GIVE UP!
TweetTweetI am beginning to believe more and more that being a successful internet marketer requires more than the right website tools or the right niche market. Of course the last two things that I mentioned are important but the MOST IMPORTANT of all is mindset.
Pity parties are usually a party of one. When a little voice starts whining about how the blog theme looks or about how I’m not posting enough, or this or that, it’s always nice to stop by another marketer’s blog.
The Universe, knew how I was feeling today. So, when I logged on to my website, Gary “Gazzman” Simpson’s link was at the top of Alex Jeffreys students. It seems the Universe always knows what you need and I’d like to share it. Thank you the Universe!
Without further ado.
Gary Gazzman Simpson’s Blog Post:
Hi folks,
I just thought I would say a couple of things in the hope that what I offer here can be assimilated into your thinking. And if you get my IDEA then I’m hoping that it will free up some of your “mind-space” for creativity rather than blanketing it with…
Are You Persistent Enough? – http://motivationselfesteem.com/talk
Today is Sunday so I’m going to be very brief. Not because it’s Sunday really but because I was up all night and into the morning signing up for giveaway freebies. A girl has to stock the store right?
Anyway, it’s Father’s Day. My Dad passed away several years ago and all other family members live out of state; I started feeling alone and sorry for myself.
Fortunately, that didn’t last too long. I remembered what I read in books like Think & Grow Rich and the principles behind Alex’s program- you have to give before you receive. So I sent text messages to all of the dads in my phone’s contact list wishing them a Happy Father’s Day.
Throughout the day, I’ve been getting return messages thanking me and asking me how I’m doing. It then dawned on me that I should “tweet” my Twitter followers as well. No links, just a heartfelt Happy Fathers Day.
I’m not sure what kind of response I will get from my followers. What I do know is that I’m not feeling sorry for myself anymore. The text messages are still rolling in and I have a better idea of what Alex mean when he says “our lists are people”.
Which reminds me, I’m going to end this now and give my Uncle Leroy a shout (he doesn’t have text messaging).
TweetI’ve got my plans, to-do lists, timer etc. but sometimes it just feels like I’m on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the spring, encountering nothing but detours.
OK, so I planned to add an opt-in box to my site. Tutorial says it takes 5 minutes to set up but wait- the theme I selected isn’t saving my changes and there is some loopy workaround to fix it. Get another theme.
Now that I’ve activated a new theme, everything-widgets, banners, lists are all out of place or don’t fit the contents area. Fix all that and now the new theme will not accommodate the opt-in form I had originally set out to install on my blog. Re-install old theme and continue to look for better theme. In other words, back to square one-deal with the loopy workaround until the bug is fixed.
I”m not complaining, I’m just saying…
